The constraint

A dark, sharp-edged modern house on a flat suburban lot, with a blank boundary fence on three sides and no tree worth keeping.

The decision

Instead of softening the house, the garden takes its geometry: paving and lawn interlock as one grid, a single multi-stem tree anchors the seating court, and a fire pit on gravel gives the family a reason to be outside after dark. The pool sits behind a pergola so the court stays the quieter room.

The detail

The lawn is cut into the paving, not laid beside it. Every edge is a full slab, so there are no cut tiles against the grass.
