Bluestone patios, porcelain terraces, granite steps and cobbled driveways: the skeleton of every great garden. We design stonework the way architects detail buildings, and source it from quarries most catalogs never reach.
Illustrative photographPlanting matures in years; stone is forever. The terraces, walks, walls and courtyards of a property decide how it lives, where you dine, how you move, what you see from every window. That is why our practice begins with hardscape: get the stone right, and the garden around it becomes inevitable.
With more than ten years of built stonework behind our drawings, we detail paving at a level still rare in residential work: hand-set patterns, precise joints, engineered bases for freeze-thaw climates, and materials chosen slab by slab. We are based in New York and design stonework for gardens across the United States, with bases, jointing and stone chosen for the climate each one sits in.
| Material | Best for | Character |
|---|---|---|
| Bluestone | Patios, walkways, pool surrounds | The New York classic, durable, refined, ages beautifully |
| Porcelain pavers | Rooftops & terraces on pedestals | Light, precise, frost-proof; the modern city standard |
| Granite | Steps, edging, high-traffic paving | Practically eternal; crisp European formality |
| Belgian block & cobbles | Driveways, aprons, courtyards | Old-world texture; the signature of an estate |
| European natural stone | Feature terraces & walls | Travertine, limestone, sandstone, sourced direct from quarries abroad |
Every stone project starts as a drawing: layout, pattern, joint plan, drainage and base engineering, and a material specification you can put out to bid. The design is the deliverable. Build it with any contractor you trust, or ask us to coordinate the build; it is quoted separately. Either way, the detail on paper is the detail on the ground.
